Toxic Mold Exposure Causes, Symptoms & Treatments

Doctors have coined the term ‘Toxic Mold Syndrome’ to treat those with problems resulting from extensive exposure to indoor “toxic mold”, also know as “black mold.” Most people that have serious problems seem to because they also have serious mold allergies, however, not all have allergies, some of the symptoms can only be explained by the mold exposure. And more importantly, this does not mean they should be unnecessarily exposed when those responsible have the ability to clean up the indoor environment. Toxic Mold can cause many health problems, especially causing respiratory illnesses, sometimes becoming chronic. It can also cause headaches, various breathing problems, nervous system problems, skin rashes, nasal discharge, and joint pain.

The best treatment for ‘Toxic Mold Syndrome’ is to be removed and not re-enter the moldy indoor environment that was causing the original health problems. In most patients, permanent removal from the environment has seemed to see an almost immediate reprieve from symptoms. However some patients, those more sensitive such as infants, elderly, or otherwise immune compromised individuals may have long term consequences with their health. Breathing treatments, allergy and asthma medications may be prescribed and perhaps even respiratory therapy, or some other medications for dermatological and nervous systems issues. Once there has been an incidence of health issues in relation to indoor, toxic mold exposure, an individual would be wise to avoid other environments, living or working that would be unnecessarily damp and moldy in the future. Damp and moldy environments tend to have a higher percentage of dust mites and cockroaches which can also aggravate allergies and health problems similar to those caused by the mold exposure.
